Walk this Way: July resident challenge
Along with our occupational therapy department, our activity coordinators are kicking off a brand new challenge with our residents today. Walk this Way will take place throughout July, challenging residents to walk 100km across the month. We will have an adapted challenge for residents with limited mobility, and wheelchair users will be welcome, too.
The benefits of walking
A daily walk is something that people of all ages and abilities can benefit from. As a form of exercise, walking is good for the heart, for general fitness, and for maintaining a healthy weight. Walking usually means spending time outdoors, which has additional health benefits. Spending time in nature can reduce stress and anxiety, and promote general wellbeing. Walking together outside is also a safer way for our residents to spend time together and get to know each other; infectious diseases such as Covid-19 are less likely to spread from person to person outdoors. Our residents will have a strong sense of achievement as a result of completing the challenge, and we hope it will help us all to develop healthy habits.
