Alzheimer’s disease gets the silver screen treatment
This month, the world premiere of Supernova took place in Spain. The film follows partners Sam and Tusker as they navigate life after a diagnosis of early-onset dementia.
Starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci, the film is “a poignant portrait of love in autumn”. Partners of 20 years, Sam and Tusker are taking a road trip across England. They visit friends, family, and old haunts as they think about their future. The film was inspired by writer-director Harry Macqueen’s personal experience of friends and colleagues coping with the effects of early-onset dementia.
We’ll have to wait for the film’s November release to pass judgement. However, for us, seeing Hollywood heavyweights bringing the everyday struggles our residents and their families face to a wider audience feels like a good thing!
