Welcome to the Memory Clinic at Bloomfield Hospital

The Memory Clinic at Bloomfield Hospital is a specialist outpatient service designed to provide assessment, diagnosis, support and follow up treatment for individuals aged 65 years and above who are experiencing memory loss. Each assessment is conducted in a multidisciplinary team approach lead by a Consultant Psychiatrist. Additional members of the Team include a Neuropsychologist, Clinical Nurse Manager, Occupational Therapist and Social Worker.

Information and support is also available for the individual’s family/ caregiver.

If you, or somebody you know is experiencing one or a number of the following symptoms of Memory loss, the Team at the Memory Clinic will be able to assist you.

These symptoms may include:

  • Recent Forgetfulness
  • Difficulty in performing your job due to memory loss
  • Difficulty performing familiar tasks
  • Misplacing items
  • Disorientation in place and time
  • Poor or decreased judgement
  • Getting lost
  • Loss of interest / initiative
  • Changes in mood or Changes in personality

Visits to the Memory Clinic will include:

  • Assessment screening
  • Diagnosis
  • Information, education and support for the individual and family caregivers

A comprehensive multidisciplinary memory assessment will take place during two appointments and will then be followed by a third appointment which will  discuss both a diagnosis and options for treatment, ongoing information, education, support and advice about local resources

A Cognitive Rehabilitation Programme, if required, will also be available at Bloomfield Hospital.
